Experience

I tutored English and Geology at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA for several years. I also worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader in English and ESL classes there. For this job I sat in on each class and helped out, and then twice a week led focused discussion and activity groups for one half of the class at a time. Although I majored in Celtic Studies ultimately, I took numerous English classes in both composition and literature. I also took a semester-length class specifically to train as a tutor. Being offered the opportunity to work as a Supplemental Instruction Leader was an honor reserved for the best tutors at my former employer. I want to start tutoring again because it was the most rewarding job I've ever had. I love working with students who seek help and are excited about learning. Also, since I am not working in education at this time, I want to tutor in order to maintain my skills.
