Experience
I'm currently a Visiting Instructor of Religious Studies at Elon University. In the past, I've worked as as Instructor of Reading and Study Skills for the Institute of Reading Development. I have extensive free-lance editing experience for both academic and creative works. I served as Editor-in-Chief of the Carolina Quarterly for five years, Managing Editor of the Harvard Review for two, and have extensive experience editing for numerous other literary and academic journals. I'm a published poet with both a chapbook and multiple journal publications. In the field of Religious Studies, I have both taken and taught a number of courses in Islamic Studies, Asian Religions, Early Christianity, New Religious Movements, Death and the Afterlife, and Theory and Method in the Study of Religion. In English, I've taught First-Year composition courses at Syracuse University and taken classes on poetry and fiction writing, British and American literature, contemporary American poetry, and Shakespeare. Though the tests have changed over the years, I scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Writing and 790 on the SAT Verbal in 1998. My GRE Verbal scores placed me in the 99th percentile. I recently successfully mentored a GRE student who improved her Verbal scores greatly and landed a spot at her top-choice graduate school.
